World Students’ Day 15 October 2025

 

  • Type: Day of the Week and Curiosities.
  • Observed on: 15 October
  • Purpose: To commemorate students and celebrate the birthday of the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a motivational educator.

Why it is Observed:

  • Born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kalam spent his life teaching, innovating and empowering youth.
  • He was referred to as the Missile Man of India and his contribution was in the missile and space programs of India.
  • He used to believe that students are the future of a powerful nation.

History:

  • 2010: The United Nations declared it to be the World Students Day in honor of the contribution made by Kalam to education and his association with students.
  • Kalam was the 11th President of India (2002-2007) and went on serving till his final gasp of air in 2015.
  • Awards: Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan.

Current Affairs Relevance (2025):

  • The day emphasizes on education, innovation and youth leadership.
  • Educational establishments, colleges hold seminars, inspirational talks, and occasions based on the vision of Kalam: Dream, dream, dream. Dreams become thoughts and thoughts lead to action.
