India’s Largest Greenfield Steel Project Cleared in Andhra Pradesh

 

  • The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted clearance to ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s (AMNS) proposed greenfield steel plant at Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh . Valued at Rs 1.5 lakh crore , this project represents the largest single investment in India’s steel manufacturing sector , marking a major milestone in the country’s industrial and economic growth.

  • The AMNS steel plant will be developed in phases, with an initial capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) . Over time, it will be expanded to 24 MTPA , creating one of the largest integrated steel facilities in the world. The project will use energy-efficient, low-emission technologies that meet global sustainability benchmarks. It aims to build an advanced steel ecosystem supporting domestic and export markets.

The state government allotted land within three months and provided single-window clearance for faster execution. Aditya Mittal , CEO of ArcelorMittal, praised the state’s proactive governance and emphasized that the plant will serve as a center for innovation and sustainable manufacturing .
