1. Ceremony and Occasion
- The Diamond Jubilee Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner are given by President Droupadi Murmu to the President Bodyguard (PBG) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- This is 75 years since the regiment was appointed the Bodyguard of the President in 1950.
2. PBG History.
- The PBG is the most antique regiment in the Indian Army formed in 1773 in Banaras (Varanasi).
- This was established by Governor-General Warren Hastings in its original form as the Bodyguard of the Governor-General (subsequently the Bodyguard of the Viceroy).
- It began with a force of 50 troopers of cavalry.
- On 27 January 1950 it was renamed the President's Bodyguard.
- President Dr. Rajendra Prasad presented the first Silver Trumpet and Banner in 1957.
3. Unique Distinctions
- It is a particular honour to the PBG to be the only regiment with two Standards:
- A Bodyguard Standard of the President.
- The Regimental Flag of the PBG.
4. Selection Process and Role
- There is a thorough process of selecting soldiers of physical qualities, discipline, and skill.
- They are tied to war horses in ceremonial dress, a whole cavalry spirit and modern professionalism.
- The PBG has since independence served 1 Governor General and 15 Presidents.
5. Significance of the Award
- The prize honors 75 years of notable service.
- The regiment represents a symbol of discipline, heritage and loyalty.
- It signifies the glory of Rashtrapati Bhavan and the pride of the Indian Army.
