NHRC Launches Online Internship to involve young audience on human rights

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has opened its On-Line Short-Term Internship Programme initiation in September 2025, which helps build youth-awareness as to the issue of human rights advocacy and their protection. Among many applicants of 896, 80 students chosen to be in this two-week programme, which takes place between the 22 September and the 3 October, came in 21 States and Union Territories.

Programme Objectives and Areas of Focus.
The internship would attempt awareness on Indian constitutional values as well as different recognitions of human rights such as civil, political, social, and cultural rights. It goes as well to discuss future dystopias like climate change, artificial intelligence, cybercrime, and work as a gig economy. The programme contributes to the fact that human rights are dynamic and citizens must participate in them constantly to protect them.

Leadership and Key Messages
The programme was inaugurated by the Secretary General of NHRC, Bharat Lal, who stressed on the importance of justice, empathy, and dignity in protecting human rights. He imparted active involvement of interns and internalization of human rights principles promoted by him. Important global problems that may arise today like business and human rights, labour rights, and the displacement caused by climate were also emphasised, and these promote the fact that human rights are relevant to the present governance and development of society.

Industrial and Business Training Curriculum and Method.
As the curriculum is supported by the Joint Secretary, Smt. Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak, it is a combination of lectures and virtual tours throughout institutions such as Tihar Jail, shelter homes, and the police sorted out. The approaches used include interactive activities to equip experience about protection of rights. The interns are introduced to international human rights law, domestic issues, and advocacy which consequently gave them the full-rounded look at the human rights framework.

Expected Outcomes
It is supposed that the participants will have a deep insight into the values of human rights and will know how to approach modern issues to achieve success. The internship offers students knowledge on how to be responsible individuals in terms of human rights, including critical thinking and being proactive in human rights projects.

The NHRC hopes to build a generation of enlightened youth, who will be empowered to distribute justice, equality, and dignity in society, through this programme, as well as to build a empowered human rights ecosystem in India.
