​​​​​​​Cyclone Montha to Strengthen in Bay of Bengal IMD Warns Tamil Nadu orange alert

 

  • System: Cyclone Montha that is forming around southeast Bay of Bengal.
  • Timeline: It is projected to develop into a depression on October 25, a strong cyclonic storm on October 27, and travel to Tamil Nadu coast.
  • IMD Alert: Orange Alert declared on October 27 on Chennai, Tiruvallur and Ranipet districts. Other districts such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Puducherry and Karaikal on guard.

Current Situation:

  • Heavy to very heavy rain fell in the districts of southern and northern Tamil Nadu.
  • Maximum rainfall: Pallipattu (Tiruvallur)- 15 cm, Nalumukku (Tirunelveli) -12 cm, Oothu (Tirunelveli)- 11 cm.
  • Prognosis: Thunderstorms, light and moderate rain until October 28, with possible intermittent heavy downpours.
  • Weather: Chennai day -29 o C, night -2425 o C.
