President Murmu’s Jharkhand Visit Highlights Tribal Heritage and Education

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Jamshedpur and Adityapur on December 29 , marking her first official visit to the region after assuming the office of President of India. The one-day programme holds strong cultural and academic significance, focusing on tribal heritage and higher education in Jharkhand.

Centenary Programme of Ol Chiki Script
A key highlight of the visit will be the President’s participation in the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script at Disom Jaher in Karandih, Sundernagar . Ol Chiki was developed in 1925 by Pandit Raghunath Murmu to provide a dedicated script for the Santhali language . President Murmu will address the concluding session of a week-long seminar organised to promote the growth, preservation, and wider adoption of the script.

Cultural Significance of Ol Chiki
Ol Chiki is a unique indigenous writing system that has played a crucial role in preserving Santhali literature, education, and cultural identity. Over time, it has become a powerful symbol of tribal self-expression and linguistic pride. The centenary event reflects national recognition of India’s tribal knowledge systems and linguistic diversity.

Convocation at NIT Jamshedpur
Following the cultural programme, the President will visit the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur , where she will preside over the 15th convocation ceremony . Degrees and gold medals will be awarded to graduating students at the institute’s new auditorium.
