CBSE Strengthens Eligibility Regulations of Class 10 and Class 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new guideline that comes with strict eligibility criteria to students that are taking Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. The purpose of the move is to instill academic discipline, adhere to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and get rid of the irregularities in the school system.

Two-Year Program Structure

The board has affirmed that the Class 10 and Class 12 are included in a two-year programme- Class IX-X and XI-XII respectively. The subjects should study throughout the cycle, no shortcut enrollments or incomplete preparation will be done.

Attendance Requirement

The student should have a minimum of 75% attendance in order to attend the examinations. Although relaxations can be awarded, they will be done only under extraordinary situations and such relaxations must have sound documents to support them. The aim of this rule is to encourage frequent classroom work and to discourage absenteeism.

In-house Evaluations Became Compulsory.

Under NEP 2020 reforms evaluation is an integrated part of internal assessment and practical component. These evaluations will be performed during the two years and students have to pass the tests to be permitted to take final board examinations. Failure to complete internal assessments will lead to a student being appropriate as Essential Repeat even when he or she is trying the theory papers.

Prohibitions on Other Subjects.

The guidelines will also limit taking other subjects. Schools can only provide subject where they have a good infrastructure and qualified teachers. This makes it possible to maintain academic integrity and no one can be enrolled in a subject which the school cannot cover.

Re-Crackdown on Dummy Admissions.

The message goes straight to the point of the cases of dummy admissions, where the students join schools and fail to attend classes before they can sit down and take board exams. CBSE has threatened that the practices are against the face to face model of learning and that schools discovered to be promoting them will be disciplined.

Consequences of the Directive.

Such measures will be aimed at:

  • Strengthen responsibility of schools and students.
  • Make sure to have continuous learning and evaluation.
  • Enhance the validity of CBSE examinations.
  • Make schooling practices closer to NEP 2020.

CBSE implements the notion that learning is not only a matter of exams but a whole course through enforcing attendance, in-house testing, and course attendance by the process of implementation of attendance and internal testing and full course attendance.
