Arunachal Pradesh Climbs to 17th Rank in Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024

Arunachal Pradesh Registers Sharp Rise in National Learning Rankings

Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a significant breakthrough in school education, securing the 17th position in the Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 . The ranking marks a decisive improvement for the northeastern state, which had previously been placed among the lower-performing regions in national learning assessments. State authorities have attributed the progress to sustained reforms and focused implementation of education policies.

Performance Across School Stages

The Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 evaluated learning outcomes across Grades 3, 6 and 9 in states and Union territories nationwide. Arunachal Pradesh recorded 12th rank in Grade 9 , 14th in Grade 6 , and 24th in Grade 3 . The results point to steady gains across foundational, middle and secondary levels, suggesting broad-based improvement rather than isolated progress.

Language Learning as a Key Strength

Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted language proficiency as one of the state’s strongest areas. Students in Grades 6 and 9 scored above the national average in language subjects, outperforming earlier state benchmarks. Officials noted that improvements in reading comprehension, writing skills and classroom engagement contributed to this achievement, particularly in government schools.

Policy Reforms Behind the Improvement

The state government credited a series of targeted reforms for the upward trend. These include teacher capacity-building programmes , curriculum enhancement aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) , improved assessment mechanisms and investments in school infrastructure. Monitoring of learning outcomes has also been strengthened at the district and block levels to ensure accountability.

Community and Teacher Participation

Education officials emphasised the role of teachers, parents and local communities in driving change. Greater coordination between school administrations and communities has improved attendance, classroom practices and student motivation. The state views the latest ranking as a stepping stone toward its broader goal of educational transformation by 2029 .
