PM Modi Urges Citizens to Reclaim Unclaimed Funds Under ‘Your Money, Your Right’ Campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens across the country to actively identify and reclaim long-forgotten financial assets through the national initiative ‘Your Money, Your Right’ . The campaign reflects the government’s renewed emphasis on transparency, public empowerment and restoring rightful ownership of dormant funds.
A National Push for Financial Awareness
The initiative encourages individuals to trace unclaimed bank deposits, insurance payouts, mutual fund holdings and dividends that have remained untouched for years. PM Modi described the mission as a collective step toward strengthening household finances and ensuring that citizens regain savings that have slipped out of active use.
Magnitude of Unclaimed Wealth in India
Official data reveals the vast scale of idle funds parked across financial institutions. Banks hold tens of thousands of crores in inactive accounts , while insurance companies, mutual fund houses and corporate dividend registries also retain sizeable unclaimed amounts. These dormant assets often belong to families unaware of their entitlements due to outdated records or lack of documentation.
Simplified Access Through Digital Portals
To make the recovery process efficient, the government has introduced multiple online platforms.
-
UDGAM Portal – for unclaimed bank deposits
-
Bima Bharosa Portal – for insurance-related claims
-
MITRA Portal – for mutual fund information
-
IEPFA Portal – for dividend and corporate-related dues
Citizens can verify claims through Aadhaar-linked data searches and submit requests directly through these systems.
