Gujarat Initiates Major Education Support Schemes

The Gujarat government has made an essential step in enhancing education by introducing two massive support programs in March 2024. These initiatives are geared towards lessening the financial constraints of students, especially girls, and learners in the science stream, as it is part of the vision to have a developed India by 2047. Over 12 lakh students have benefited a little over one year and the total disbursements have gone beyond 1,161 crore.

Namo Lakshmi Yojana: The Girl Student Empowerment.

The Namo Lakshmi Yojana is aimed at making sure that no girl leaves school because of lack of finances. It assists girls who are enrolled in Classes 9 to 12 in the GSHSEB and CBSE boards. The inclusion part of the scheme is that it does not bar girls who have already been offered other scholarships. A direct incentive to keep on learning is given to each student [?]50,000 during four years. Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana: The Promotion of Science Education.

The second large-scale program is the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana which aims at motivating students to take science subjects in Classes 11 and 12. They must be students who are eligible and have a mark of at least 50% in Class 10 and they must attend either government, grant-in-aid or recognised self-financed schools. Beneficiaries are given [?]25,000 in two years to cover studies in science. To date, more than 1.5 lakh students have been benefitted with disbursements exceeding [?]161 crore. The scheme is operated under the portal of Namo Saraswati which makes it an efficient endeavor.

The two schemes are closely connected with the national vision Viksit Bharatwhich is the roadmap to a developed and future-ready India. Girl students and encouragement of science education is not only improving the gender equity of Gujarat but also equipping the youths with the needs of a technology-driven economy.
