Bihar Bearst Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana for Employment for Women in Bihar

The Government of Bihar has taken a landmark initiative which will see them introducing the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, which is a welfare scheme designed to help women develop financial self-reliance through self-employment. Apposite initiation of the scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by transferring the 1st installment to a sum of 7,500 crores to 75 lac women marked the launch of a scheme that is destined to change the lives of many.

Scheme Highlights

Under this scheme, each eligible female will get a starting grant of [?]10,000. This amount is disbursed non-repayable and is used to help women to start their own businesses on a small scale or build the capacity of their existing income generating activities. The scheme is aimed at women aged between 18 and 60 who are in an economically weaker household. Prioritization given to women without continuous job or source of income and unmarried adult women who have lost one or both parents.

Operationalization and Implementation

The response has been overwhelming in nature with more than 1.11 crore applications filed till date. Finally, for smooth implementation, the Rural Development Department takes care of the applications coming from rural areas, while the Urban Development Department looks after the applications from towns/cities. District Magistrates have been asked to conduct events at village, block, and district level to create awareness and elicitation of active participation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

Financing and Development Opportunities

In addition to initial grant, scheme has follow-up after six months. Advanced Grant: Women entrepreneurs have to run their businesses successfully, eligible for an additional grant of up to Rs2 lakh, for further expansion, which will be essential for perpetuation of business. This two-tiered approach provides not only short-term support but also opportunities to foster long-term growth.
