- CSIR-AMPRI and IMD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish cooperation.
About SODAR System:
- SODAR is an acoustic remote sensing that employs sound waves to examine the parameters in the atmosphere.
- It offers very essential information on the speed of wind, direction, turbulence and thermal stratification up to some specific altitudes .
- Weather forecast, dispersion of pollution and dynamics of the atmospheric boundary layer .
Collaborative Objectives (MoU):
- Enhance the partnership research on climate and environmental sciences .
- Further encourage the exchange of data between meteorological departments and research institutions.
- Increase weather forecasting, disaster reduction, and meteorological research capacity in India .
About CSIR-AMPRI:
- Bhopal, CSIR-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI) .
- Previously called Regional Research Laboratory .
- Founded in May 1981 at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
- Specializes in the development of materials and process engineering .
Significance:
- Signifies effective dissemination of native technology by research organization to operating agency .
- Improves the home-grown technology in India in atmospheric monitoring .
