In an important move towards gender inclusion in India security set-up, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has formed its first women commando platoon in 2025. The unit of 30 personnel is in the middle of an intensive eight weeks training period at the Regional Training Centre in Barwaha, Madhya Pradesh.
Intense Training of Elites
The training commenced in August 2025, and deals with advanced combat skills such as weapons handling, live shooting, climbing, jungle and guerrilla warfare skills, as well as bearing the three-day war operation. A critical element is a 48-hour confidence building module to challenge decision-making and resiliency under the simulation of high-stress, hostile situations. A second team (of 100 women commandos) is also planned to be added to ensure further augmentation of the unit.
IT jobs and IT responsibilities
On the finalization, the women commandos shall be directed to Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Special Task Forces (STFs). They are to be used to secure high security installations like airports, metro networks, and sensitive government and other facilities of strategic turnover. They will be responsible to respond to terrorist threats at high velocity, counter-terror operations as well as other highly important security activities.
Breaching The Lines Of Security Forces
Women comprise the current CISF representation with an up on a percentage increase to 10 by 2026. This undertaking goes a step further and places women directly into the heart of combats, which in traditional culture have been viewed as male bastions. The CISF also became the first central armed police force in India to raise a wing of All women commandos.
A Logos of Radical Transformation
The formation of this unit portrays a decisive policy change on acknowledging the abilities of women in high-risk tackling activities. It highlights the desire of the Indian government to achieve gender parity as well as to increase the level of effectiveness with which their operations are run. Based on the success of the program, the program is likely to become a part of the CISF training calendar, and therefore, will give women a regular chance of receiving specialized combat training.
