First Commercial Coal Mine in Arunachal Pradesh Opened-Major Ideas

1. Historic Inauguration

  • Arunachal Pradesh in reality became a coal-producing state.
  • The earliest commercial coal mine at Namchik-Namphuk district Changlang was opened.
  • Organized by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

2. Background

  • The coalfield was originally assigned to the APMDTCL at the early 2000s.
  • Legal, environmental and regulatory problems were a setback to development.

3. Project Revival & Operation

  • In 2022, Coal Pulz Pvt. Ltd. (CPPL) auctioned the mine with the help of a transparent bidding process.
  • Commercial operation started in October 2025 after approvals.

4. Economic & Strategic Impact

  • The approximate coal reserve: 1.5 crore tonnes.
  • Projected income per year: more than 100 crore of the state.
  • Will create jobs, draw in industrial investment and enhance development of the region.
  • Favors Aatmanirbhar Bharat and enhances energy security of India particularly in the North-East.

5. National Mineral Development & Integration.

  • Trying to include the North-East into the chains of national energy and mineral supply.
  • Promotes the discovery of key infrastructure-related and technological minerals.
