Delhi Expands Primary Healthcare Network with 81 New Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

The Delhi government has taken a major step towards strengthening neighbourhood-level healthcare by inaugurating 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the national capital. The expansion, launched on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, underlines the government’s commitment to accessible, affordable, and preventive healthcare for all residents.

Strengthening the Primary Care Backbone

With the latest addition, Delhi now has 319 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs functioning as the first point of contact in the public health system. The newly opened centres are located in the Hari Nagar Assembly constituency. The government has reiterated its long-term plan to establish at least 15 centres in every Assembly constituency and expand the total network to around 1,100 facilities across the city, ensuring wide geographic coverage.

Range of Services and Digital Enablement

The new centres are equipped to provide outpatient consultations, essential medicines, basic diagnostic tests, immunisation, and maternal and child healthcare services. Authorities highlighted the growing role of digital health tools, including online OPD appointment booking and electronic health records, which aim to reduce waiting times, improve continuity of care, and enhance transparency in service delivery.

Integration with Ayushman Bharat Framework

The initiative aligns with the national Ayushman Bharat vision of comprehensive primary healthcare through Health and Wellness Centres. In Delhi, over six lakh residents have already been registered under the scheme. The state government has also broadened access by raising the annual income eligibility threshold for Economically Weaker Sections, enabling more families to benefit from free and subsidised healthcare services.

Parallel investments are being made in hospital infrastructure, dialysis services, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and civic amenities, reflecting an integrated approach to improving urban health outcomes in the capital.
