PM Modi’s Jordan Visit Reinforces 75 Years of Bilateral Relations
India and Jordan have released a comprehensive joint statement following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on December 15–16, 2025 . The visit, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein , coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations , reaffirming the two countries’ intent to deepen cooperation across political, economic, and strategic domains.
Political Engagement and Diplomatic Continuity
The leaders held bilateral and expanded discussions in Amman , reviewing the full range of India–Jordan relations. They acknowledged steady progress built on trust, goodwill, and frequent high-level exchanges. Both sides agreed to further institutionalise engagement through existing mechanisms, including political consultations and joint working groups. The fifth round of Political Consultations is scheduled to be held in New Delhi , signalling sustained diplomatic momentum.
Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation
Economic ties featured prominently in the talks. Bilateral trade reached USD 2.3 billion in 2024 , making India Jordan’s third-largest trading partner . The leaders agreed to diversify the trade basket and convene the 11th Trade and Economic Joint Committee in early 2026. They welcomed outcomes of the Jordan–India Business Forum , which explored opportunities in logistics, infrastructure, and customs facilitation, leveraging Jordan’s strategic regional location.
Technology, Education and Capacity Building
Both countries reviewed collaboration in digital technology, education, and skills development. They agreed to expand cooperation in digital transformation and share India’s experience in Digital Public Infrastructure . The India–Jordan Centre of Excellence in Information Technology will be strengthened, while India reaffirmed support through the ITEC programme , increasing training slots for Jordan from 35 to 50 annually .
Sectoral Cooperation and Multilateral Alignment
The joint statement outlined cooperation in health, agriculture, water management, renewable energy, and climate action , including MoUs on water resources and renewables. Cultural ties were enhanced through a Cultural Exchange Programme (2025–2029) and a twinning initiative between Petra and the Ellora Caves . The leaders also agreed to explore improved connectivity and deepen coordination in multilateral platforms, reinforcing shared commitments to sustainable development.
