Rezang La Memorial Stamp Unveiled by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

A commemorative postal stamp honouring the legendary bravery of the 13th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment was unveiled in New Delhi by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh . The stamp marks a tribute to the heroic stand of Indian soldiers during the Battle of Rezang La (1962) , one of the most celebrated moments of courage in India’s military history. The event reflected a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Department of Posts and the creative team behind an upcoming war film based on the same battle.

Honouring the Heroes of Rezang La

The newly issued ‘My Stamp’ features the Rezang La War Memorial in Chushul, Ladakh, symbolising the extraordinary courage displayed by Major Shaitan Singh and his troops of 13 Kumaon. Despite facing extreme weather and overwhelming enemy numbers, the battalion fought till the last man, last round—an act that has become a timeless symbol of sacrifice.

Association with the Film ‘120 Bahadur’

The stamp launch coincided with promotional activities for ‘120 Bahadur’ , a film depicting the events at Rezang La. Actor-producer Farhan Akhtar , director Razneesh Ghai , and other members of the team attended the unveiling. The film aims to bring the battle’s historical significance to modern audiences and is scheduled for release on November 21 .

Government and Postal Recognition

The Department of Posts released the commemorative stamp to honour national military valour. Senior postal officials highlighted the role of philately in preserving historical memory. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised that remembering such heroic episodes strengthens national pride and acknowledges the sacrifices that shaped India’s defence legacy.
