Khelo India University Games 2025 to be Hosted Across Rajasthan

1. Summary of the Announcement

The fifth edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is scheduled to be held in Rajasthan from  November 24 to December 5, 2025 . The event will be spread across seven host cities, with over 5,000 athletes from universities nationwide competing in 23 medal sports. This edition introduces new sports, expanding the competitive landscape.

2. Significance and National Importance

• Grassroots Platform:  The KIUG serves as a critical bridge for young athletes, connecting university-level competition with the national sports ecosystem.

• Holistic Development:  It encourages students to pursue excellence in both academics and athletics.

• National Vision:  The Games align with the Government of India's  Khelo India initiative , aiming to foster a strong sports culture and identify future champions.

3. Host Cities and Logistical Framework

The multi-city hosting model will utilize sports infrastructure across Rajasthan, promoting regional inclusivity and community engagement. The host cities are:

• Jaipur

• Ajmer

• Udaipur

• Jodhpur

• Bikaner

• Kota

• Bharatpur

4. Sports Disciplines and New Additions

• Total Sports:  23 medal sports and 1 demonstration sport (Kho-Kho).

• Key Medal Sports:  Athletics, swimming, boxing, wrestling, basketball, football, hockey, shooting, and more.

• New Introductions:  This edition marks the debut of  Beach Volleyball, Canoeing and Kayaking, and Cycling , reflecting the evolving diversity of sports in India.

5. Participation and Context

• Scale:  The event expects participation from over 5,000 athletes, representing hundreds of Indian universities.

• Previous Edition:  The last KIUG was held in North-east India, where  Chandigarh University  clinched the champion's title.

• Governing Bodies:  The initiative is led by the  Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports  in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities and National Sports Federations.
