In the Persian Gulf and the northern part of the Indian Ocean, Iran has carried out a large naval exercise, the Sustainable Power 1404. This two-day exercise is the largest military exercise conducted by the country, since its June 2025 conflict with Israel and is widely viewed as the act to restore military image of the country after that confrontation.
A display of Power and Strength
The drill entailed live-fire missile firings by warships, which included frigate IRIS Sabalan, that launched Nasir and Qadir cruise missiles that had a sea-based target. This was a presentation meant to demonstrate the precision strike capabilities of Iran and the capabilities of the command of its armed forces. The drill was a very clear information of deterrence and the assertion that the country was quick to recover even after the recent military defeats.
Military Components Inside the Integrated Components
A wide usage of military forces, such as surface and subsurface warships, air, missile defence systems, and electronic warfare brigades, was provided in the operation. This signifies the fact Iran has maintained this impetus in pursuing integrated war capabilities to enhance its battle preparedness.
Geopolitical Reasons and Implications
Analysts consider the exercise an offensive to the recent Israeli military exercises simulating its attack against nuclear sites in Iran. The above message is conveyed by Iran mining key maritime transportation channels, such as the Gulf of Omen, to deter future aggression and reflects its intention to stay relevant in the region. This shift is bound to encourage the reconsideration of the security posture and readiness by neighbouring states and their competitors.
