India has begun Trishul 2025 , a major tri-Service combat exercise involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force along the western border with Pakistan. The large-scale drill aims to test joint combat readiness amid renewed tensions around the Sir Creek region.
Strategic Context
- The exercise follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s warning to Pakistan that any provocation in the Sir Creek sector would invite a decisive response. The disputed 96-km Sir Creek estuary separates Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch from Pakistan’s Sindh province. To support operations, India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting airspace over Rajasthan and Gujarat from October 30 to November 10 .
Pakistan’s Parallel Activity
- Pakistan imposed temporary flight restrictions over its southern airspace on October 28–29 , likely for its own military drills or missile tests. Analysts view this as a show of readiness following Operation Sindoor (May 2025) , during which India targeted terror infrastructure across Pakistan and PoK.
Scope and Scale of Trishul 2025
- Though officially termed a routine drill, Trishul 2025 is the most expansive edition yet. Over 20,000 troops are participating, supported by tanks, howitzers, missile systems, and attack helicopters . The exercise includes amphibious operations off the Saurashtra coast and desert warfare manoeuvres in Rajasthan , simulating both offensive and defensive missions.
Air and Naval Integration
- The Indian Air Force has launched “Mahagujraj” operations , deploying Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI jets, aerial refuellers, AWACS aircraft, and UAVs. The Indian Navy has positioned frigates and destroyers along Gujarat’s coast. Parallel drills like “Trinetra” focus on electronic warfare and counter-drone operations to strengthen tri-Service coordination.
