Lokpal Foundation Day 2026: A Modest Observance Highlights Institutional Evolution and Public Trust

New Delhi, January 16, 2026: The Lokpal of India commemorated its Foundation Day today, marking twelve years since the pivotal Section 3 of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, came into force on January 16, 2014. The day serves as an annual reflection on the establishment and evolving role of the country’s apex body for addressing corruption amongst public functionaries, reinforcing its mandate for transparency and accountability.

He specifically honored social activist Anna Hazare and former Supreme Court judge Justice N. Santosh Hegde for their seminal contributions. Characterizing the institution as one “by the people, of the people, and for the people,” Justice Khanwilkar presented data indicating robust institutional health. He noted a consistent rise in complaints received over the past two years, with a projected sharp increase for the fiscal year 2025-26. This trend, he stated, signals growing public awareness and trust in the Lokpal's mechanisms.

Digital Leap and Employee Recognition

A key highlight of the day was the inauguration of a new, state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and Data Centre. This facility is designed to enable complete end-to-end digital, paperless processing of complaints, aiming to enhance efficiency and accessibility. The ceremony also included felicitations for winners of competitions held on International Anti-Corruption Day 2025. Additionally, long-serving staff members were recognized, and children of Lokpal employees were honored for their accomplishments in academics, sports, and cultural pursuits.
