Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 Highlights Unity Through India’s Many Languages
The Ministry of Education commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati by organising Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 in New Delhi. Held under the theme “Many Languages, One Emotion” , the event celebrated India’s rich multilingual heritage, with special emphasis on the preservation and promotion of tribal languages through active participation by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs .
Focus on Tribal Languages and Knowledge Systems
A dedicated exhibition stall by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs showcased publications developed by Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) from Jharkhand, Odisha and Gujarat . The collection included dictionaries, primers, storybooks and research documents that captured oral traditions, folklore and linguistic structures of tribal communities. The exhibition underlined the importance of systematic documentation in safeguarding endangered and lesser-known languages.
Adi Vaani: Technology for Linguistic Inclusion
One of the highlights of the event was the live demonstration of Adi Vaani , India’s first AI-powered tribal language translator , developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi . The platform enables real-time text and speech translation between major Indian languages and select tribal languages. In its initial phase, Adi Vaani supports Santali, Kui, Bhili, Mundari, Gondi and Garo , with provisions for future expansion based on linguistic demand and community participation.
Cultural Expressions of Unity
Students from different regions presented cultural performances reflecting India’s diversity. A dance and nukkad natak by students of EMRS Kalsi highlighted tribal identity and social themes. The collective rendition of “Vande Mataram” in 22 Indian languages symbolised national unity rooted in linguistic diversity.
Strengthening Multilingual Heritage
The festival brought together educators, researchers and students, reinforcing India’s commitment to linguistic inclusion. By blending culture, education and technology , Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 showcased a holistic approach to revitalising India’s multilingual traditions.
