September 1

1939 - The Second World War started; the war automatically involved India (as a British colony).

1956 - The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) was incorporated.

1946 - Interim Government of India under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru was established.

1998 - Indo-US Strategic Dialogue initiated.

• 1783 - Treaty of Paris was signed; had an indirect impact on British rule in India after American Revolution.
• 1939- Britain declared war on Germany, India was declared a part of the war without consultations.

• 1888 - Birth of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, philosopher and 2nd President of India.
