India–UAE Joint Military Exercise DESERT CYCLONE–II Concludes in Abu Dhabi

Successful Conclusion of DESERT CYCLONE–II

The second edition of the India–UAE Joint Military Exercise DESERT CYCLONE–II concluded with a formal closing ceremony at Al-Hamra Training City in Abu Dhabi. Conducted from December 18 to 30, the exercise brought together contingents of the Indian Army and the UAE Land Forces , reinforcing the deepening defence partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates .

Objectives and Operational Focus

The exercise aimed to enhance interoperability, mutual trust and coordination between the two forces in an urban warfare setting. Training was conducted in the context of sub-conventional operations under a United Nations mandate. A blended approach was adopted, combining classroom-based learning with realistic field training to strengthen both doctrinal understanding and operational execution.

Key Training Components

Joint training activities covered urban combat techniques such as marking and clearing of buildings, improvised explosive device awareness, casualty evacuation and battlefield first aid. Considerable emphasis was placed on mission planning, enabling participating troops to exchange tactical knowledge and align procedures for complex urban environments.

Integrated Field Drills

The exercise progressed to advanced practical drills in built-up terrain, including room intervention, building clearance, heliborne insertion and air assault operations. Platoon-level joint assault exercises rehearsed coordinated offensive and defensive actions. The final phase showcased integrated urban operations, demonstrating the forces’ combined readiness and standardisation of tactics, techniques and procedures.

Participating Units and Strategic Value

The Indian contingent comprised 45 personnel, primarily from The Mechanised Infantry Regiment, while the UAE side was represented by the 53 Mechanised Infantry Battalion. DESERT CYCLONE–II strengthened professional military bonds and enhanced preparedness for future joint and multinational operations.
