- The Government of India has approved the first batch of seven projects worth Rs5,532 crore under the Electronics Manufacturing Component Scheme (EMCS) , giving a major boost to domestic electronics manufacturing. These projects are expected to generate Rs36,559 crore in production value and create over 5,100 direct jobs across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh .
Strengthening Core Manufacturing
- Announcing the decision, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the move marks India’s transition from assembling electronic products to manufacturing key components and materials . The approved units will produce Multi-Layer and HDI PCBs, Camera Modules, Copper Clad Laminates (CCL), and Polypropylene Films — all critical parts earlier imported from abroad.
Boost to Self-Reliance and Exports
- The projects will meet 100% of India’s demand for Copper Clad Laminates , 20% for PCBs , and 15% for Camera Modules . Around 60% of total output will be exported, strengthening India’s role in global electronics supply chains and reducing import dependency in sectors like defence, telecom, and renewable energy .
Regional Spread and Industry Reach
- Of the seven approved projects, five will be set up in Tamil Nadu , one in Andhra Pradesh , and one in Madhya Pradesh . The components produced will support industries such as consumer electronics, automotive systems, ICT, robotics, and medical devices , promoting regional industrial growth.
Strategic Impact
- The EMCS initiative complements flagship programmes like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) . Together, they aim to make India a global hub for electronics design, manufacturing, and exports , creating high-skill jobs and strengthening trusted, domestic supply chains.
