Commissions Adamya-Class Fast Patrol Vessel of the Indian Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned the most recently built ship, ICGS Adamya, on 19 September 2025 at Paradip Port, Odisha, and was an indigenous project. This is the beginning of the first of eight Adamaya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) which have been designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), yet again enhancing the maritime capability of India in the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Aboriginal Design and Development.

ICGS Adamaya is a 51 metre long ship with a departure capacity of approximately 320 tons. It is capable of reaching 28 knots, whose power is supported by two 3000 KW diesel engines. The incorporation of the first locally developed Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) and gearboxes is also a major highlight as it guarantees that the plane will be highly manoeuvrable and fuel-efficient. The vessel, which has more than 60 percent indigenous content, is an excellent representation of India being independent in the production of defence ships.

Deployment and Roles

It will be based at the Paradip and will be operating in the command of the ICG District Headquarters No. 7 (Odisha). Adamya will assume varied tasks such as coastal patrol, maritime patrol, search and rescue, and pollution reaction with a staff of five officers and 34 personnel. This is because its induction empowers the Eastern Seaboard of India that is strategically isolated due to its high importance in trade and security.

Armament and Systems

To counter the threat of defence, Adamya is armed with a 30 mm CRN 91 naval gun and two 12.7 mm remote-controlled machine guns which are connected to a modern fire control system in order to direct the fire towards the target. These will allow the ship to be responsive in the event of any maritime threats.

More Sophisticated Automation Systems.

The FPV is developed with a combination of new automation systems, such as a system of Integrated Bridge System (IBS) to be able to navigate smoothly, a system of Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) to control the machinery and Automated Power Management to be energy-efficient. The systems improve the endurance of operations and decrease the workload of the crew.

Strategic Importance

The launch of the ICGS Adamya shows how India is willing to modernise its sea forces and secure such a long coastline. In addition to security the ship also indicates the rising shipbuilding potential of India and its desire to protect its national interests in an increasingly dynamic Indo-Pacific region.

ICGS Adamya is therefore not only a new fleet to the Coast Guard, but also a symbol of Indian self-sufficient future in the sea.
