Aadhaar-based e-sign verification by ECINET: Electriction Commission is initiated to prevent electoral fraud, manage voters more easily and gain more trust in elections.
Election Commission Announced Aadhaar-based E- Sign in the verification of Voters.
In an effort to boost the integrity of any election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made another big move of introducing an Aadhaar based e-sign validation option on its ECINET portal and application in a move aimed at ensuring voter registration, deletion requests and correction requests is mandatory through Aadhaar linked phone numbers. This system was introduced in September 2025. The relocation will help in transparency enhancement, misuse reduction and voter confidence.
ECINET: The Single Unified Election Platform.
The ECINET system has over 40 previous Election Commission applications that have been jammed into one streamlined system. Introduced in the by-elections in 2025, specifically in June in states such as Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal, ECINET has made the data handling of elections easier, along with enhancing the management of the data.
E-Sign Verification(Aadhaar-Selected).
Under the new feature, applicants should authenticate their identity with mobile numbers against Aadhaar numbers during addition of voter (Form 6), deletion (Form 7) or correction (Form 8) form. After submission, users have the option to grant access to a portal at Centre of Development of Advanced Computing, (CDAC) where an Aadhaar authentication, which is OTP based, completes the process. This will prevail that changes of electoral roll only be executed by genuine voters.
Sealing the Pilawins of the former System.
In the old times one could just call using a phone number which was linked to an EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number and make requests. But this allowed room to commit fraud, such as the deletion of spurious voters. One instance was reported in the Aland Assembly constituency in Karnataka in which close to 6,000 voters were kicked off via forged forms. The Aadhaar-based system effectively deals with such weaknesses.
Improving the transparency of elections.
ECINET also enhances real-time data of elections. Final voter turnout numbers are now uploaded online immediately by presiding officers onto the site and the last step in polling supervision and reporting works has ended leaving the past manual reporting technology of years past. This has seen the masses access turnout information within 72 hours after the polls making it more transparent.
Building Voter Trust
The ECI is acting decisively towards ensuring that voter rolls are not laundered by introducing Aadhaar based e-sign verification. By the ECINET coming into full play these reforms are likely to strengthen voter faith, certify authenticity and cement the electoral process in India in the future.
