Indian Railways Completes Final High-Speed Trial of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Milestone in Indigenous Rail Innovation

Indian Railways has marked a major achievement in indigenous rail technology with the successful completion of the final high-speed trial of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train . Conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) , the trial represents a crucial step towards deploying advanced sleeper services capable of combining speed, safety and comfort on long-distance routes.

High-Speed Trial on Kota–Nagda Section

The trial was carried out on the Kota–Nagda section , where the train achieved a maximum speed of 180 kmph . During the run, multiple technical parameters were assessed, including ride stability, oscillation and vibration behaviour, braking and emergency braking systems, and the performance of onboard safety mechanisms. After detailed evaluation, the CRS declared the trial fully satisfactory, paving the way for operational clearance.

Ride Comfort and Stability Demonstration

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the success of the trial by sharing visuals from the run. A key demonstration involved glasses filled with water remaining steady without spillage at high speed. This symbolic test showcased the train’s advanced suspension system, superior ride quality and engineering precision.

Passenger-Centric Sleeper Design

The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper rake has been designed specifically for long-distance overnight travel. It offers modern sleeper berths, automatic doors, modular toilets, CCTV-based surveillance, digital passenger information systems, and energy-efficient technologies. Advanced fire detection and safety monitoring systems further enhance passenger security.

Advanced Safety and Technology Suite

The train is equipped with KAVACH automatic train protection , crashworthy couplers, anti-climbers, aerosol-based fire suppression, regenerative braking, UV-C air-conditioning disinfection, sealed gangways, emergency talk-back units, Divyangjan-friendly facilities, and a centralised coach monitoring system. With CRS clearance, Indian Railways is now set to introduce Vande Bharat Sleeper services, reinforcing its commitment to safety, innovation and Atmanirbhar Bharat .
