Major National Initiatives

  • The Government of India launched two major urban development initiatives — DRAP (Dumpsite Remediation Accelerator Programme) and UiWIN (Urban Investment Window) — at the National Urban Conclave 2025 in New Delhi. The schemes, unveiled by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar , aim to accelerate waste remediation and attract investment in sustainable city projects.
  • The government also notified new deep-sea fishing rules for operations within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) , spanning 23 lakh sq. km , to regulate marine resources and promote responsible fishing practices.
  • On Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee , Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended celebrations at the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun , marking 25 years since the state’s formation in 2000 .

Key National and International Highlights

  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in September 2015 by 193 UN member states under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development , replacing the Millennium Development Goals.

  • Gujarat became the first Indian state to launch a genome sequencing initiative for tribal communities , advancing biotechnology applications in public health.

  • Mumbai ranked as Asia’s happiest city in the Time Out 2025 survey , based on responses from over 18,000 residents across Asia.

  • Sahitya Akademi released the Hindi translation of the Lithuanian novel “The Last Day” titled “Antim Din” , in collaboration with the Embassy of Lithuania .

  • AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB) launched ‘M Circle’ , a women-focused banking programme promoting financial inclusion and empowerment .

Economy and Finance Updates

  • Quant Small Cap Fund trimmed stakes in RBL Bank and six other firms, exiting Jana Small Finance Bank and Thyrocare Technologies .

  • The RBI issued new directions under “Lending Against Gold and Silver Collateral” (2025) , effective April 1, 2026 , permitting loans against silver .

  • The RBI repatriated 64 tonnes of India’s gold reserves from overseas between March–September 2025 .

  • INS Sahyadri reached Guam to participate in Exercise Malabar 2025 .
