UAE–Telangana Collaboration at Davos
Telangana has secured strong international support for its ambitious Bharat Future City project, with the United Arab Emirates agreeing to collaborate on its development. The understanding was reached during high-level interactions on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, marking a significant step in positioning the proposed city as India’s first net-zero greenfield smart city.
The discussions took place between Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri , UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, and A Revanth Reddy , who led the Telangana Rising delegation. Both sides agreed to jointly pursue the development of Bharat Future City as a globally competitive, future-ready urban centre.
Vision, Scale and Net-Zero Ambition
Bharat Future City lies at the heart of Telangana’s long-term goal of transforming itself into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Planned across nearly 30,000 acres, the city is envisioned as a next-generation urban–industrial hub built entirely on sustainability principles. It will feature dedicated clusters for artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, education, healthcare, residential development and entertainment.
The project is designed as a net-zero city from inception, integrating renewable energy, green buildings, sustainable water management and low-carbon mobility systems. By adopting climate-resilient infrastructure at the planning stage itself, Telangana aims to set a national benchmark for greenfield urban development.
Investment Interest and Global Partnerships
Beyond the UAE’s support, several global corporations have already shown interest in participating in the project, including Japan’s Marubeni and Singapore-based Sembcorp. The UAE side has proposed the creation of a joint task force to ensure coordinated planning and time-bound execution.
In parallel, Saudi-based industrial group Expertise has expressed interest in collaborating with Telangana’s Young India Skills University to develop skilled manpower for sectors such as petrochemicals, steel, power and water treatment. The proposed programme could see the recruitment of nearly 5,000 skilled professionals annually, strengthening the talent pipeline required for large-scale industrial growth.
