Amla Ashok Ruia Honoured with Rural Development Award at Ramoji Excellence Awards 2025
Amla Ashok Ruia, celebrated nationwide as the “Water Mother” for her pioneering work in water harvesting, was honoured with the Excellence in Rural Development Award at the inaugural Ramoji Excellence Awards 2025 held in Hyderabad. The prestigious recognition underscores her transformative impact on drought-prone regions through sustainable water management initiatives.
Champion of Water Conservation
Ruia received the award from Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan , in the presence of the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Her organisation, the Aakar Charitable Trust , has constructed hundreds of check dams, replenished groundwater, and restored agricultural livelihoods in villages across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Her work has empowered farming communities by ensuring reliable water access and improved crop cycles.
