India Post Introduces Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48 to Enhance Time-Bound Deliveries
Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced the launch of two new premium postal services— Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48 —aimed at guaranteeing deliveries within 24 hours and 48 hours respectively. The initiative represents a major step in the modernisation of India Post , aligning its services with contemporary logistics and customer expectations.
Announcement at Pichhor and Infrastructure Boost
The announcement was made during a public event at Pichhor in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh. During the programme, the minister inaugurated a newly renovated Pichhor sub-post office, completed at a cost of Rs2 lakh. He also laid the foundation stone for a new sub-post office building, estimated at Rs1.11 crore, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening postal infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas.
Officials said such investments are crucial for improving service delivery and ensuring that upgraded postal offerings reach the grassroots level.
Faster and More Reliable Postal Services
According to the minister, Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48 will set higher standards for punctuality and reliability in postal delivery. These services are designed to cater to time-sensitive documents and parcels, especially across major routes, enhancing India Post’s competitiveness in the growing logistics and courier market.
The assured delivery timelines are expected to benefit individuals, businesses, and government agencies that rely on dependable and cost-effective delivery solutions.
Part of a Broader Postal Transformation
The new services form part of India Post’s wider transformation agenda, which includes adoption of digital technologies, improved logistics planning, and service quality enhancement. By offering faster delivery commitments, India Post aims to support e-commerce growth, improve access to government services, and strengthen last-mile connectivity—particularly in regions where private courier networks have limited reach.
Telecom Reforms and Indigenous Capability
Separately, the minister referred to recent reforms undertaken by the Department of Telecommunications through the National Centre for Communication Security . These reforms focus on enhancing indigenous manufacturing, testing, and security capabilities in the telecom sector, reinforcing India’s push towards self-reliance and secure communication infrastructure.
