- In 2025, the Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has introduced two large-scale national projects Pulses Mission Self-Reliance., and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.. The two programmes are intended to boost the agriculture industry in India, improve the income of farmers and food security.
Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
- Catering to 100 Aspirational Districts in India.
- Combines 36 sub-schemes of 11 ministries on a unified coordinated system.
- Sanctioned in July, 2025, and opened in October, 2025.
- Annual allocation: Rs24,000 crore in 6 years.
- Focus areas:
- Agriculture infrastructure today.
- The role of technology at grass-root.
- Small and marginal farmers capacity-building.
Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission
- Goal: Self-sufficiency in pulses and be less dependent on imports.
- Pulse cultivation: Target expansion:
- Area: 275 lakh ha - 310 lakh ha by 2030-31
- Production: 242 lakh tonnes -350 lakh tonnes
- Productivity: 1,130 kg per hectare.
- Total expenditure: Rs11,440 crore in six years.
- Also targets to provide jobs in the rural regions by farming by the cluster and developing the value chain.
Implementation and Co-ordination.
- Cluster of districts will lead to action at field.
- States to oversee the formation of clusters and reach farmers.
- Regular coordination via:
- Conferences with 11 Ministry of the Union.
- NITI Aayog officials
- State nodal officers
- Focus on delivering the benefits directly to farmers and on-time performance.
