Punjab Rolls Out ‘Easy Registry’ System to Streamline Property Registration Services
The Punjab government has launched the Easy Registry system, a major reform aimed at removing hurdles historically associated with property registration in the state. Announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the initiative seeks to modernise land-related services through decentralisation, digitisation and increased administrative transparency.
A Shift Towards Citizen-Friendly Governance
Property transactions in Punjab have long been affected by delays, repeated office visits and area-based restrictions that often complicated registrations. The Easy Registry model attempts to overcome these barriers by permitting property registration in any Sub-Registrar office within the same district , irrespective of the jurisdiction of the property location. This change significantly reduces processing time, improves citizen convenience and strengthens ease of doing property transactions.
Digital Access, Faster Processing and Real-Time Tracking
Citizens can now draft sale deeds online or prepare them at Sewa Kendras by paying a nominal ₹500 convenience fee. The platform allows complete document upload within 48 hours , while objections, if raised, will be addressed by the respective Deputy Commissioner for verification. Applicants will also receive WhatsApp-based status updates , ensuring transparency and enabling individuals to monitor application progress without physical follow-ups.
Curbing Corruption Through Accountability
To prevent malpractice, the system includes a dedicated grievance channel for reporting bribery demands or procedural obstruction. With Deputy Commissioners now answerable for timely clearances, the state expects operational efficiency to improve and corrupt practices to decline significantly.
