The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) hosted the International Conference of Telecom Regulators in New Delhi. It coincided with two significant gatherings: the India Mobile Congress (IMC-24) and the World Telecom Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24). Dr. Pemmasani, Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Rural Development, inaugurated the ceremony. Numerous significant representatives from international organizations such as the GSMA and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) were there.
Trends in Regulation: An Emerging Conference
Theme and Purpose:
- Emerging Trends in Telecom Regulation conference
- We wanted to inform telecom regulators about recent events and collaborate with them on some solutions to challenges.
Conference Sessions:
- State of Standards from the Regulators Point of View: Focused on how regulators create these standards for the telecom space.
- Overview on satellite Communication/Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) regulatory aspects – focussed the latest developments in this technology
- Regulatory perspective on OTT Communication Services: the debate on (and beyond) how to regulate these services, ensuring consumer protection and law enforcement issues.
Participation and Engagement:
- More than 150 participants from several more than 30 nations participated.
- The Saudi Arabia Communications, Space & Technology (CST) and TRAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
About TRAI:
- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is an independent regulatory authority which was established in 1997 in order to regulate the telecom services in the country.
- Its primary role is to enforce fair competition and consumer protection.
