A group of craftsmen was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently at a function honoring the PM Vishwakarma Yojana's anniversary. At the occasion, which was held at Wardha's Swavalambai Ground, the Prime Minister urged craftsmen to look into starting their own businesses.
Details of PM Vishwakarma Scheme
A government program created to improve outcomes and productivity in traditional lines of work.
- Helped more than 6.5 lakh artisans by giving them modern machinery and tool-kits
- Economic support to handicraft artisans-in-the-form of loans up-to 3 lakh rupees.
- Nearly rupees 1,400 crores lent to Scheduled Cast/ Scheduled Tribe (Artisan) by banks.

- Charya Chanakya Skill Development Center – Free skill development training for youth.
- Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme: Helps women start businesses and promote women-led startups.
On PM Vishwakarma Scheme
- Launched in Sept 2023, relatively an app2 support traditional artisans/craftsmen from all over India.
- Focuses on Skill Development, Financial Assistance & Market Linkages
- Incentivizes artisans to adopt online channel, and adhere sustainable process.
