  • 1958 - Dhyan Chand, reflections of a wizard in hockey.
  • On 29 August, the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand (born 1905), the legendary Indian hockey player who won three gold medals in the Olympics (1928, 1932, 1936), the National Sports Day in India is observed.

Increased Hysterectomy of Indian Women.

Growing Trend

According to the recent statistics, there is a rapid increase in the number of hysterectomy operations performed on women aged 30-40 years, in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar and Gujarat. At least one out of every 10 women between 40 and 49 years old, in India, has gone through the surgery and in certain states the rates are well above 20 percent. Median age is only 34 in rural and 36 in urban centres leading to serious health concerns.

NDB Appoints Dr Rajiv Ranjan as Vice President

Appointment and Background

Dr Rajiv Ranjan has been appointed by the New Development Bank (NDB), which was established by BRICS countries, as vice president and chief risk officer. Dr Ranjan is a central banker since 1989, who was recently an executive director at RBI as well as a Monetary Policy Committee member. He is an expert on monetary policy, liquidity management, financial markets and risk assessment with over 30 years of global experience with the G20, IMF, World Bank, BIS, FSB, OECD, and SAARC.
