Reliance JV to Establish 1 GW AI-Ready Data Centre in Visakhapatnam

In a significant push toward digital infrastructure expansion, the Andhra Pradesh government has confirmed the establishment of a 1 Gigawatt (GW) data centre in Visakhapatnam by Digital Connexion , a joint venture between Reliance Industries, Brookfield and Digital Realty . Backed by an investment commitment of Rs98,000 crore by 2030 , the project marks one of the largest data and AI infrastructure proposals made in India to date. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalised with the AP Economic Development Board (APEDB) on Wednesday.

AP Govt to Provide Land & Clearances for Rapid Execution

The upcoming hyperscale campus is planned to meet global technical benchmarks, featuring high-density AI-compatible racks, multi-layer power redundancy, dedicated substations, and strong fibre connectivity . To fast-track construction, the State will facilitate environmental permissions, infrastructure linkages and seamless access to utilities. 400 acres of land will be allotted for the project, while power supply and data grid integration will be prioritised to support continuous operations.

Boost to AI, Cloud and Data Ecosystem in South India

This major investment strengthens Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to evolve into a national AI and cloud infrastructure hub , enabling enterprise-level workloads, hyperscaler deployments and next-generation AI computing. The project follows similar big-ticket entries in NDA-ruled States and comes alongside Google’s AI Hub in Vizag , valued at Rs 87,520 crore. Meanwhile, the Opposition claims investment flows are being redirected from non-NDA states, citing semiconductor plant distribution under the India Semiconductor Mission .

Andhra Pradesh has also recently partnered with Tillman Global for a Rs 15,000 crore data campus, signalling sustained momentum in digital and electronics manufacturing.
