Dhanvantri Jayanti, the ninth Ayurvedic Day

Nearly Rs 12,850 crore worth of health projects were started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The festival of Dhanteras and the ninth Ayurvedic Day occurred on the same day as this event. Every year on Dhanvantri Jayanti, the celebration of the birth of Lord Dhanvantri, the heavenly physician, Ayurveda Day is celebrated.

Ayurveda Day Overview
 

  • It is an ancient Indian system of medicine to promote total human welfare and celebrates Ayurveda Day. 
  • Founded in 2016 by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Government of India, for promoting the Ayurvedic system of treatment.
  • Dhanwantri Jayanti is a festival, which is celebrated per annum and is all devoted to the god of health and medicine.  

Dhanvantri: The Divine Physician

  • Dhanvantri has been treated as a god of physicians because of his feature of being the avatar of Lord Vishnu.
  • He explained Ayurveda knowledge to him, which was known to Lord Brahma.

Significance of Dhanteras 

  • It is observed on a day when Ayurveda Day is marked to remember Dhanvantri, who emerged from the ocean during the ‘Samudra Manthan. 
  • The pounding of the ocean produced Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

 
Worship on Dhanteras 

  • To some, Dhanvantri is worshipped so as to live healthy, long lives, Goddess Lakshmi and Kuber, the god of wealth.

 
Ayurveda Day Themes 

  • For 2024, the topic is ‘Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health,’ and it will be dedicated to women’s health, occupational and educational health promotion, and new approaches to food on corporate and school campus settings.
