Zardalu Mangoes: Bihar’s Royal Fruit That Reaches Rashtrapati Bhavan

Overview

Zardalu mangoes, also called Jardalu, are a unique mango variety from Bhagalpur, Bihar. Known for their light yellow skin and special aroma, these mangoes are sent to the President and Prime Minister every summer. The variety received the GI tag in 2018. The first tree, planted between 1810-1820, still stands.

Supreme Court Draft Rules for AI in Courts: No to Sentencing by Machines, Yes to Assistance Only

Overview

The Supreme Court’s AI committee has released draft regulations for using AI in courts. AI systems will be allowed only in an assistive role, not for judicial decisions, sentencing, or profiling witnesses. “Black box” AI that cannot be explained is banned. The draft is open for public comments until 20 June 2026.

The BRICS Indore Declaration was adopted on 15 June 2026 with four priorities: farmers, food security, climate and technology. Four new initiatives include Centres of Excellence on Agro-Ecology, Digital Agriculture Network, Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights, and BRICS AgriN. India also proposed a BRICS Urban Research and Knowledge Network.

Four traditional products from Jharkhand – Bhagaiya silk, Kuchai silk, Munda jewellery, and bamboo craft – have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. UP Launches Portal for Teachers’ Cashless Medical Scheme: ₹5 Lakh Cover

Overview

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a dedicated registration portal for the Chief Minister’s cashless medical scheme for teachers and their dependents. The scheme covers about 11.95 lakh basic education teachers and 2.97 lakh secondary education staff. Beneficiaries can get cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh at empanelled hospitals.
