What is the Central Zonal Council?

These councils are  statutory bodies , not constitutional bodies. That means they are created by a law of Parliament, not by the Constitution directly.

The Five Zonal Councils of India

There are five Zonal Councils in India:

  1. Northern Zonal Council

  2. Central Zonal Council  (this meeting)

  3. Eastern Zonal Council

  4. Western Zonal Council

  5. Southern Zonal Council

The North‑Eastern states are not part of these five councils. They have a separate body called the North Eastern Council.
