India to Lead Global IT Security Standards as CCDB Chair for 2026-2028

OVERVIEW

India has been chosen to lead a very important global body for IT security. The country will chair the Common Criteria Development Board (CCDB) from April 2026 to April 2028. This decision was confirmed at a meeting in Tokyo, Japan, held from 14 to 16 April 2026. The CCDB is the technical core of the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA), which is an international treaty that allows different countries to trust each other's IT security certificates. India has been a member of this arrangement since 2013. This leadership role shows India's growing strength in the field of IT security standards.

Bhupender Yadav Launches ‘Lion’ Species Spotlight Programme at Sasan Gir

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the ‘Lion’ Species Spotlight Programme at Sasan Gir in Gujarat. The event took place just before the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit 2026. The programme highlights India’s success in Asiatic lion conservation. The lion population in Gir has been rising steadily. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Gir is a living example of how economic growth and wildlife conservation can go together. India will host the first IBCA Summit in New Delhi on 1–2 June 2026. The summit will see participation from 95 countries and over 400 delegates.

Election Commission to Update Voter List in Odisha Special Revision from 30 May

OVERVIEW

The Election Commission of India will conduct a month-long Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Odisha. It will start on 30 May 2026. This is part of Phase III of the revision, which covers 16 states and three Union Territories. Booth-level officers will go door-to-door to check voter details. They will remove duplicate entries, deceased voters, and shifted voters. The draft voter list will be published on 5 July 2026. The final list will come out on 6 September 2026. Odisha has about 33.4 million voters as of 12 May 2026. The revision will also be coordinated with Census house-listing work.

New Ebola Outbreak Confirmed in Congo’s Ituri Province 65 Deaths Reported

OVERVIEW

On 15 May 2026, health officials confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention announced the outbreak. Laboratory tests found the Ebola virus in 13 out of 20 samples. As of 15 May, there were 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths. The outbreak is in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones. The virus strain is non-Zaire ebolavirus, and further testing is ongoing. An emergency meeting was held with health authorities from Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
