Their defence is estimated to have caused over 1,300 Chinese casualties, a feat unrivalled in modern warfare. Yet, over six decades, the Ahir identity central to this heroism has been repeatedly marginalised in official narratives and popular culture.

Delivered on 28 November 2025, Taragiri is the third ship of the class constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL). The vessel also revives the heritage of the original INS Taragiri, a Leander-class frigate celebrated for three decades of distinguished service.
