Overview
West Bengal has raised the upper age limit for state government jobs. The change started from 11 May 2026. The Finance Department (Audit Branch) issued a notification. The new rules amend the West Bengal Services (Raising of Age-limit) Rules, 1981. Now, more people can apply for government posts. This is good news for job seekers in the state.
Revised Age Limits for State Posts
The government has fixed new maximum age limits for different job groups.
| Category of Post |
New Upper Age Limit |
| Group A |
41 years |
| Group B |
44 years |
| Group C and Group D |
45 years |
These limits are for direct recruitment to state government jobs.
Existing Service Rules and Statutory Bodies
If any post already has a higher age limit than the new one, the old rule will continue. That means some posts may still allow older candidates to apply.
For recruitments under the West Bengal Regulation of Recruitment in State Statutory Bodies, Government Companies and Local Authorities Act, 1999 , the upper age limit is also 45 years . This applies to posts filled outside the Public Service Commission, West Bengal.
