Jaggery: India Natural Sweetener Leads the World

Overview

India makes more than 70% of the world’s jaggery. This makes India the global leader in natural sweeteners. Jaggery, also called gur, is an unrefined sweetener made from sugarcane juice. It keeps many healthy minerals that white sugar loses. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer in India. Some jaggery varieties even have a GI tag, like Kolhapur Jaggery and Muzaffarnagar Gur.

Delhi Airport to Get India First Driverless Air Train

Overview

Delhi International Airport Limited is building India’s first driverless airport air train. It is called an Automated People Mover (APM) system. The train will run on a 7.7 km route. It will connect Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, Aerocity, and Cargo City. The project will cost between Rs2,000 crore and Rs4,000 crore. It is expected to start operating by the end of 2027 or in 2028. Transit passengers will ride it for free.

Om Birla Forms Committee on Empowerment of Women

Overview

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has set up the Committee on Empowerment of Women. This committee will look at policies and schemes for women. BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari will be its chairperson. The committee has 28 members. Eighteen are from Lok Sabha and ten from Rajya Sabha. Famous names like Hema Malini, Sudha Murty, and P T Usha are part of it. The goal is to help women get better opportunities and safety.

India and Vietnam Strengthen Defence Ties in May 2026 Meetings

Overview

India and Vietnam held two important meetings in May 2026. One was in New Delhi on 6 May. The other was in Hanoi on 19 May. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Vietnam’s Defence Minister Phan Van Giang discussed maritime security, military training, and defence manufacturing. The two countries also signed a new agreement on artificial intelligence and quantum technology. This shows their strong and growing friendship.

India First Bullet Train Design Revealed for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor

Overview

India has shown the first proposed design of its Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. This high-speed train will run at 320 km per hour. It will cut travel time between the two cities to just two hours. The train will have 12 stations. The first phase will run between Surat and Bilimora. The target launch date is 15 August 2027. This will be India's first dedicated bullet train corridor.
