Thailand Queen Sirikit dies at 93

 

  • Death: Queen Mother Sirikit, widow of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, died in Bangkok, at 93, after having been fighting a blood infection since 17 October 2025, which was confirmed by the Royal Household Bureau.

India Top 10 Carbon Sinks in the World Forest FAO Report

 

  • Carbon Capture: The forests of India have a carbon capture of 150 million tonnes of CO 2 (2021-2025) making India one of the top ten carbon sinks in the world.
  • World Standing: Second after the top three Russia (1,150 Mt), China (840 Mt) and USA (410 Mt); similar to Belarus. Carbon removal in top ten countries consumes almost 90 percent of the world forest.
  • Forest Area and Growth: According to GFRA 2025, India is ranked 9 th in the world in total forest area and 3 rd in annual net forest gain that is a positive indication of afforestation and conservation programmes.
