Yuki Bhambri Enters ATP Top 20, Marks Historic Moment for Indian Tennis

Historic Ranking Breakthrough for Indian Tennis

Indian tennis achieved a major milestone as Yuki Bhambri climbed to a career-high world No. 20 in the latest ATP men’s doubles rankings.

With this achievement, Bhambri became the first Indian to enter the Top 20 in men’s doubles since Rohan Bopanna , reaffirming India’s continued relevance at the elite level of global doubles tennis.

Consistent Performances Behind the Rise

Bhambri moved up from world No. 22 following a sustained run of strong performances across ATP and Grand Slam tournaments. Unlike ranking jumps driven by a single title, his rise reflects consistency, tactical maturity, and repeated deep runs on the tour.

At 33, Bhambri has successfully transitioned into a specialist doubles role, efficiently converting match wins into ranking points and establishing himself among the ATP Tour’s top doubles exponents.

Australian Open 2026 Performance

At the Australian Open , Bhambri partnered Sweden’s Andre Goransson and delivered a solid campaign.

The pair defeated Australian wildcards James Duckworth and Cruz Hewitt in the opening round, followed by a spirited comeback win against Santiago Gonzalez and David Pel in the second round. Their run ended in the third round, but the points earned played a decisive role in pushing Bhambri into the Top 20.

Building Momentum Through the 2025 Season

Bhambri’s breakthrough has been built steadily over the 2025 season . He reached the US Open men’s doubles semifinals alongside Michael Venus , narrowly missing out on a Grand Slam final.

Earlier in the year, he captured his maiden ATP 500 title at the Dubai Tennis Championships , partnering Alexei Popyrin . The duo saved multiple match points in a dramatic final against reigning Grand Slam champions.

In the same year, Bhambri also became India’s No. 1 doubles player , ending Rohan Bopanna’s long-standing position at the top of the national rankings.
