Nation highlights progress and strategies under NACP-V on December 1
India marked World AIDS Day 2025 on December 1 with awareness drives, policy outreach, and reiteration of its goal to eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Observed globally each year, the day underscores progress against HIV/AIDS and the need for sustained policy, medical support, and social inclusion. This year’s theme — “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response” — called for resilient systems capable of addressing health inequalities.
Mission and Objective
The national objective is to reduce new HIV infections, expand access to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), and strengthen surveillance and treatment networks. India’s strategy focuses on community-led outreach, early testing, stigma reduction, and protection of the rights of Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV).
Through the National AIDS and STD Control Programme (NACP), the country aims to build a health ecosystem that is equitable, rights-driven and capable of withstanding future public health disruptions.
Current Status
India is currently implementing NACP Phase V (2021–2026), backed by a budget of ₹15,471.94 crore. The programme scales up ART access, routine viral load monitoring, and targeted interventions for high-risk groups. The 2030 elimination target remains the principal milestone, with renewed focus on awareness, legal protection, and programme expansion over the next four years.
