On 9 May 2026 , Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal . This is the first BJP-led government in the state's history. Historic Day for West Bengal
On 9 May 2026 , West Bengal saw a historic change. Suvendu Adhikari became the ninth Chief Minister of the state. He is the first BJP leader to hold this post. The oath ceremony took place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata . Along with the Chief Minister, five other BJP leaders also took oath as ministers. This is the first time the BJP has formed a government in West Bengal since India's independence.
