WFI Lifts Suspensions on Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan, Clearing Their Return to Competition

WFI Lifts Bans on Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has revoked the suspensions of Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior star Neha Sangwan , paving the way for their immediate return to national and international wrestling events. The decision ends months of uncertainty and restores two of India’s most promising freestyle talents to the competitive arena.

Suspensions Withdrawn After Review

Aman had been serving a one-year ban from 23 September 2025 for failing to make weight at the World Championships in Zagreb, while Neha received a two-year sanction following a similar infraction at the U20 Worlds in Samokov. The withdrawal of these orders marks the first reversal of a national-level ban imposed on an Olympic medallist for indiscipline.

Reasons Behind the Original Sanctions

Aman was found 1.7 kg over the 57 kg limit before his opening bout at Zagreb, leading to disqualification and disciplinary action. Neha exceeded the 59 kg category limit by 700 grams at the Junior Worlds. Both were issued show-cause notices and submitted written apologies, acknowledging their lapses and assuring stricter adherence to weight protocols.

Committee Evaluates and Recommends Leniency

The WFI disciplinary committee met on 13 November 2025 to reassess both cases. Taking into account the wrestlers’ medal records, international achievements and the fact that these were first-time offences, the panel recommended a more lenient approach. WFI president Sanjay Kumar Singh subsequently ordered that both suspensions be lifted, while warning that repeat violations would invite severe consequences.

Exam Facts

  • Aman Sehrawat: Paris Olympics bronze medallist (57 kg freestyle)

  • His original suspension: 23 Sept 2025 – 22 Sept 2026

  • Neha Sangwan: U20 World Championships bronze medallist (59 kg)

  • WFI disciplinary committee reviewed cases on 13 Nov 2025

Return to Competitions and Future Prospects

With bans revoked, both wrestlers can enter the Pro Wrestling League auction and resume regular training camps. Aman’s reinstatement also keeps him eligible for major tournaments such as the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya , which he would have otherwise missed. The WFI has emphasised that strict compliance with weight management and discipline rules will now be mandatory for all athletes.
